Alternative Spring Break Experience
Advisors Make Last Minute Changes
The participants in the Alternative
Spring Break Experience have recently faced set backs in their final stages of
preparation for the event. Although obstacles needed to be conquered, the
advisors are back on track and have everything running properly and smoothly.
Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern
Miss were originally supposed to rally a team of students and combine forces to
give back to their beloved state.
“We wanted to show the community
that we can come together and work for a common goal which is the betterment of
our state and communities,” said Heather Black, the coordinator of the trip.
An obstacle
that caused changes in the trip recently happened when the tornados struck
Southern Miss. Due to the severely damaged campus, Southern Miss is no longer able
to participate in this year’s trip. This unfortunately caused set backs to the
program. The coordinators were forced to go back and finalize numbers and
cancel some of the community service projects the participants were invested
in.
“It was
unfortunate, but completely understandable,” said Black. “We hope they are able to invest that
time and effort back into their own community.”
The sudden drop
of Southern Miss has been adjusted for and now the team members are working on completing
last minute details. The schedule is finalized, waivers have been sent out,
t-shirts have been ordered, and guidebooks have been printed.
“The
leaders have done a great job planning the event, even due to recent obstacles,
and I am excited to see what a positive impact this trip will have on the state
of Mississippi,” said Ryan Henry, an Ole Miss student.
Through
hard work, dedication, and a positive mindset the participants of the Spring
Break Experience will come together to benefit communities and will hopefully
also gain knowledge about their state.
